Missing Attachments?

by Sharmila Gautama

You would like to believe that when you miss an attachment, the recipient would put it down to ‘forgetfulness’ or ‘busyness’.

Let’s flip this situation.

What if you receive an email without an attachment from someone senior, well known or from a reputed organization? I am sure you would snigger at the person’s incompetence!

So, if this is happening once too many, it’s time to follow a check list. What I first do is attach, second add the subject line, third write the content and finally fill in the ‘To’ field.

Why this order?

  1. Attach first, so you don’t forget.
  2. Write the subject line, so you know what your message is about and what you want the receiver to do? It keeps your email on track. Remember action points?
  3. Write the body of your email.
  4. Write the name of the receiver in the ‘To’ field. Put this last as a precaution so that even if you accidently click ‘Send’, the email doesn’t  go out incomplete.

So, I hope you don’t have to waste time thinking how to compose an ‘oops, I’m sorry I missed the attachment’ email.
